the camera icon next to your identity only means your system is functional (i.e. you've got a web cam connected).. when you use ichat as intended there's an icon next to each buddy which shows whether you can text, audio, or, video, chat with them... try adding one of the ... that's right, as i said earlier, video chat on ichat is only supported (afaik) via aim or mobileme accounts... other ways to video chat on the mac platform are skype to skype, or gmail to gmail. ...

AIM in the Conversations - They have jabber, skype, google talk and sip why not AIM which most mac users use. no one I know stays on skype for chatting, they all say "switch to skype for the call" ..that's it. There is pidgin for AIM but it would be cool ... Multiprocessing people.. you have it.. use it. The problem is that it will become just another A-S thread, people without Macs wanting Mac app icons and will never search on their own first.
